Microphone guide
How to test your microphone online
Check that your browser can hear the correct microphone and review practical voice-quality results before a call or recording.
Your raw microphone audio stays on this device. MicTestLab analyzes the live signal in your browser.
Prepare your microphone
- Connect the microphone or headset before you open the test.
- Close other apps that may be using the microphone.
- Use a quiet room and place the microphone a comfortable distance from your mouth.
Run the microphone test
- Open the Microphone test and select the input that you want to check.
- Select Start Audio Test, allow microphone access, and speak naturally for several seconds.
- Watch the waveform and review the input name, sample rate, latency, and voice clarity result.
Common microphone problems
The browser cannot hear you
Check the browser permission, the operating system input setting, the hardware mute switch, and the selected input.
Your voice clips or sounds distorted
Lower the input gain or move farther from the microphone. A waveform that reaches its limit can indicate clipping.
Your voice sounds quiet or noisy
Move closer, reduce room noise, and check that the microphone opening is not blocked.
Understand the results
Input and sample rate
The active input confirms which device the browser uses. Sample rate shows how often the browser captures the signal.
Latency
Base and output latency are browser estimates. The optional sound ping also depends on your speakers, room, and microphone.
Voice clarity
The clarity score is a practical browser estimate based on the live signal. It is not a calibrated laboratory measurement.
